Winter Wandelen in the Zillertal – Snowy Trails
Not every winter holidaymaker is into ski slopes. The Zillertal offers over 400 kilometres of cleared winter hiking trails – perfect for those who want to enjoy the snowy mountain landscape in peace. I'll show you the most beautiful routes away from the piste bustle.
The Most Beautiful Winter Wandelen Trails
The winter hiking trail through the Wimmertal from the Zillertal Arena is a classic: gently ascending through snowy forests with magnificent views of surrounding peaks. The route is approximately 5 kilometres long and perfectly suited for beginners. Equally recommended: the Aschau High Trail with panoramic views over the entire valley.
Snowshoe Wandelen – A Special Experience
Those wanting to experience untouched nature away from marked paths should try snowshoe hiking. Guided tours are offered by local mountain guides and lead through deeply snow-covered forests and across quiet alpine meadows. Equipment can be rented locally – an introduction is included in guided tours.
Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides
A horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snowy Zillertal is one of winter's most romantic experiences. Regular rides are offered in Gerlos and Tux – wrapped in warm blankets, you glide through the winter landscape while the horses' bells jingle.
"The silence of a winter hike in the Zillertal has something meditative. Only the snow crunches beneath your boots, and the mountains stand like white sentinels all around."
